The creation of a conference website is not easy. The general conference has sessions, speakers, sponsors, a team page, and lots of general information. Aside from that, those pieces need to be tied together. Who does which session, when is it, where does it take place and last but not least: What is it about?
Surely, WordPress does a great job to get you started with any website. And with Sympose, you can transform any website into a full conference. To give you an idea of what that looks like: Check out the demo site we created. You can easily set this up yourself.
Getting started
Assuming you’ve downloaded WordPress, the next step is to download the Sympose Plugin. You can easily install the Sympose via your dashboard in Plugin -> Add new.
After you’ve downloaded and activated the plugin, you need to install CMB2. Sympose relies on CMB2 for the creation of it’s custom fields. After all, why reinvent the wheel if there’s a solution there for the grabs?
Now you can get started on creating content, if you want to get some sample data setup, go to Sympose -> Settings and click “Generate sample data”. This action will create a 3-day conference, with sessions, sponsors and speakers. The speakers will even be setup with images. All sample data comes from different open API’s, like randomuser.me.
Within no time you’ll have a similar setup as we have on our demo.
Looking to extend Sympose with more functionality? Check out the extensions. There’s even a quick start extension available to create a blueprint of your conference within no-time!
